Very nice way to get some non-fiction reading in with babies and toddlers. Readers make GREAT read-alouds because the text is simple. This non-fiction book is a Level 1 Blastoff Readers beginning reader. Mighty Machines: Wheel Loadersby Derek Zobel Clearly several kids were already very familiar with this book and loved it.Īnother great book by Emma Garcia, this one describing different types of cars – each having their own unique sound (swish swish!) Kids in story time love chiming in with the train whistle “Woooo Wooo!”Ĭute rhyming text describes various construction site vehicles that are working to build a playground.

Awesome bouncing rhyme can be sped up and slowed down to sound like a train. This was my youngest’s favoriate book when he was an infant. Includes a diagram of the parts of the plane and a simple social-story of what happens when you go on a trip by plane. This book would be great to use before a trip with a toddler or young child. Very simple text, bright eye-catching drawings. The kids love to tell me the train car colors. I love this book for story time! Not only is there a great fun craft to go with it (see here) but also, it makes a good read aloud for this age. Several scenarios shown in the book including what to do when you are lost, which the kids were all VERY serious about! Repeating phrases are fun for the kids and reinforce that police officers are here to help us. Great read aloud book about police officers.

Police Officers on Patrol by Kersten Hamilton The mustached firefighter looks exactly like my brother! Nice big picture book lots of busy, interesting pictures. (PS – my brothers say REAL fire engines are RED!) Good information about engines including the fact that they can come in different colors. I like this one for toddlers because the text is fairly simple and the pictures are bright and clear. We own LOTS of books about firefighting and fire engines.
